More books

I finished painting the new library today and think I have all the history upstairs.  Now I just have a shelf and a bit of fiction, sports, and my two collections- the Tolkien and the Wodehouse.  Huzzah!  And yes, I love showing off my books.

Hope the table is up to it...

The new library space painting is nearly finished, so I started moving books upstairs.  I hope to get the book shelves in there by this weekend- 15 Jan.  Here's a look at the first shelf load of books- geek'tastic!

Crow parts!!!

In 2000 I went to New Orleans to attend the American Popular Culture Conference.  Way back when, the Science Fiction channel aired MST3K, and they had a game on their website called Caption This.  It would screen-grab whatever was on the air and allow you to make humourous (or not so humourous) comments.  A whole sub-culture of amazing people was created around it; we called it capping and we were cappers.  Some of the gang presented papers and a presentation at this conference- about capping and culture that had grown up around it. We went to meet up with some of our capper brethren and to basically take over the panel.  Heh..  It was a brilliant time.  One of the cappers who attended was a guy with the capper handle JoeCrow.  He was a retired New Jersey highway patrolman, and at the time drove the Zamboni for the Philadelphia Flyers.  If that wasn't cool enough- he made bot parts!  I have finally- after all these years- gotten the beginnings of a Crow T. Robot from him...  well, actually his partner.  Joe retired from the Bot parts business a while ago.  The Servo parts from earlier were from another vendor- who had the entire kit in one go.  Here is the first batch of parts- everything to make a head and torso.  I'll be getting the arms next month.

Oh, and we cappers still have a presence on that other social thingie...
